1. Region availability
Where you're allowed to sign up. If your strategy depends on a specific exchange and you move countries, the wrong choice here is a strategy-rewrite later.

2. Subaccounts
Every bot needs its own balance bucket. Without subaccounts, one strategy's drawdown drains the funds another bot was supposed to use. The exchange should let you create them in seconds, switch between them in one click, and see every fill from the master account.

Best overall (and best for EU/Asia/Australia): Bybit International. 20 easy subaccounts, master-account order history, 0.055% futures taker, solid safety record.
Best for US multi-bot setups: Coinbase Advanced. 100 portfolios, all visible from master. The catch is fees: brutal for scalpers, fine for low-frequency strategies that hit volume tiers.
Best for US spot-only bots: OKX US. 10 easy subaccounts, 0.23% spot taker. No futures.
Best for safety, single bot: Kraken. Operating since 2011, no major hacks, available almost everywhere. Deal-breaker for multi-bot setups: no retail subaccounts.
Best for cheap fees, advanced users: MEXC. 0.05% spot / 0.02% futures, fastest new-coin listings. Order history for subaccounts is borderline impossible — only pick MEXC if you trust your strategy and never need to debug past trades.
Best DEX (US users via VPN): Hyperliquid. Self-custody, 0.045% futures taker. Caveats: subaccounts only unlock above $100k traded volume, API keys expire every 180 days.
